“These measures will help us to meet the difficult challenge. But we will decide ourselves. Every day with our contribution, with responsibility and solidarity – we can and will be part of the solution,” said Anschober.
In a broadcast, the minister pointed out that 167 Covid patients are already being cared for in intensive care units in Vienna, more than ever before. And the prognosis is alarming. If the trend does not reverse, there would be 260 intensive care patients on April 7th. “That would be a dramatic overload and we have to prevent it with all our might,” said Anschober.
This can only be achieved “if we all contribute a little. The Easter break is part of it – but the solution is each and every one of us we can do it together – to protect ourselves, protect others and thus protect our intensive care units “, Anschober appealed to the population throughout Austria, but particularly urgently to the residents of Eastern Austria.
The day before – after a long struggle – the three governors Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), Michael Ludwig and Hans Peter Doskozil (both SPÖ) and Anschober announced in a joint press conference that Eastern Austria would go into a lockdown again over Easter. In Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland there will be exit restrictions from Maundy Thursday (April 1) to the Tuesday after Easter (April 6), not only at night but also during the day. The trade will be closed with the exception of everyday goods, after which there will be access tests (excluding basic suppliers), although this test measure is initially limited to the period from April 7th to 10th. The schools start distance learning in the week after Easter, after which it is to go back to face-to-face teaching with expanded test offers – probably in stages.
