A car like a modern living room: the new IONIQ 5

“A lifestyle without limits” is the direction Hyundai would like to take with the new IONIQ 5 that has just been presented. With this, Hyundai clearly hits the zeitgeist. In fact, the first model of the new Hyundai Subbrand IONIQ, which specializes in battery electric vehicles (BEV), has some notable features. Below: a center console that can be moved into the rear. A seamless dual cockpit, with einem12.3-inch infotainment screen and digital fittings. At a 350 kW fast charging station, the IONIQ 5 can be charged quickly from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. An external connection that supplies other devices, such as e-bikes, with up to 3.6 kW of power – even when the vehicle has not been used. All of this is based on the new Electric-Global Modular Platform from Hyundai.

power

The IONIQ 5 comes with two battery options (58 kWh or 72.6 kWh) and two drive variants (2WD / 4WD), either with a rear engine or with a front and rear engine. All variants allow a top speed of 185 km / h (limited).

At the top of the electric motor range is an all-wheel drive option (AWD) in combination with the 72.6 kWh battery, which generates a combined output of 225 kW and 605 Nm of torque. In this configuration, the sprint from 0-100 km / h can be completed in 5.2 seconds. If you combine the 58 kWh battery with the all-wheel drive, you can reach the 100 km / h limit in 6.1 seconds.

The variant with the 160 kW rear engine delivers 350 Nm torque and rear-wheel drive (2WD). In conjunction with the 72.6 kWh battery, this unit can accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 7.4 seconds.

To 80 percent in 18 minutes

The Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) of the IONIQ 5 supports both 400 V and 800 V charging infrastructures. The platform offers both options as standard without the need for additional components or adapters. The multi-charging system is a technology that has been patented for the first time in the world and operates the motor and the inverter to increase 400 V to 800 V and thus ensure stable charging compatibility. At a 350 kW fast charging station, the IONIQ 5 can be charged quickly from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. IONIQ 5 users only have to charge the vehicle for five minutes to achieve a range of 100 km according to WLTP.

In addition, the IONIQ 5 has a Vehicle to Load (V2L) function. This allows various electrically operated vehicles and devices, such as electric bicycles, scooters or camping equipment, to be charged while driving or on site. The V2L function can deliver up to 3.6 kW of power. The connection is located under the seats in the second row and can be used as soon as the vehicle has been started. Another V2L connection is located next to the charging connection on the outside of the vehicle. With the support of a converter, electrical devices can be charged. The external connection also supplies electricity when the vehicle has not been put into operation.
