The Global Fund will work to make the brand better deliver on its promise
SINGAPORE, Feb. 19, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Just over six months after the The Dole Promise to the world, Dole Asia Holdings and its subsidiaries are now focused on both global awareness and immediate action with the introduction of the Sunshine for All™ Fund, a $ 2 million annual fund that will support global strategic partnerships and innovation in critical areas of sustainability, access to food and waste. The fund will work with The Growing Distance launched, a short film that addresses the critical loopholes the company sees as barriers to good nutrition for all.
Terrifying and ever-deteriorating global nutrition statistics drive Dole’s quest for solutions. Almost a quarter of the world’s population suffers from moderate or severe food insecurity1 and one third of the food produced for human consumption worldwide is lost or wasted2. By working with talented innovators, promising startups and progressive partners, the Fund will fill these gaps in terms of affordability and waste, as well as accessibility and acceptance – all with the aim of fulfilling the Dole promise and for the people, the planet and to care for our common prosperity.
“We believe that practicality has to permeate every part of the company to address these global challenges – from our business model and the products we make, to how we work with partners, what we advocate and how we advocate for a more equal world “said Pier Luigi Sigismondi, President, Dole Packaged Foods Worldwide.” Raising awareness of the global problems we face and investing in the best of thought through this fund is our way of ensuring we don’t only serve our purpose, but also drive tangible solutions and real systemic changes – today. “
Dole recognizes the need to work with like-minded partners to support the fight against inequitable diets around the world. Therefore, the company is looking for partners – from entrepreneurs, startups, strategically thinking companies to social impact companies and non-governmental organizations – who can share their expertise in food production, nutrition science, compostable packaging, supply chain, logistics, sustainable agriculture and fast moving Bring in consumer goods.
“Our work for Sunshine for All during the pandemic has strengthened our belief that people will join us if they believe in what we do,” said Barbara Guerpillon, global head of ventures, Dole Packaged Foods and Asia Fresh. “The fund is our signal to the world that we are open to companies and that the economy finds, drives and promotes innovations, actions and changes.”
