Zuffenhausen The GT3, especially adored by track-savvy and purist 911 fans, will celebrate its comeback in spring. As in previous versions, the street-legal Porsche racing car stands out with its mighty gooseneck rear wing, large air openings at the front and an exhaust system with two centrally positioned tailpipes.
Compared to the previous version, which was discontinued in 2018, the 4.0-liter boxer engine housed unchanged in the rear offers an increase in output of ten to 510 hp (375 kW) and 470 Newton meters. As before, revving up to 9,000 revs is possible.
If you want to, you can drive the winged flounder, which has starved to 1,418 kilograms, in 3.4 seconds from a standstill to 100 km / h and in 10.8 seconds to 200 km / h in spite of a more complex emission control. The classic rear-wheel drive GT3 has a top speed of 320 km / h (PDK 318 km / h). As an alternative to the six-speed GT manual gearbox with double-declutching function, the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission can be ordered.
While the installation quota for manual gearshifts in most 911 versions is in the low single-digit percentage range, Porsche expects a share of 40 percent for the GT3. The new GT3 is Porsche’s first production model with a double wishbone front axle originally designed for the Le Mans winner 911 RSR.

Although this construction adds a few extra pounds, the Zuffenhausen-based company promises better steering behavior and more precision in return. New shock absorbers should also ensure better racetrack performance with more comfort at the same time. For the latter, the rear-wheel steering already used in the predecessor is beneficial.
The new aerodynamics system has a particularly large share in faster cornering, which, according to Porsche, provides up to 50 percent more downforce in the track adjustment that is not permitted for road traffic with the same high air resistance compared to its predecessor. It was also important to maintain the gooseneck guidance of the rear wing, which enables it to be “hung” on the top, since the negative pressure is primarily generated on the underside, which in this case does not have any disruptive webs.
All in all, the measures in use on the racetrack should bring significant advantages compared to its predecessor and catapult the GT3 into the exclusive Sub-Seven Club of the Nordschleife. According to Porsche, the new edition was measured on the legendary Nürburgring race track in the shorter 20.6-kilometer loop with 6: 55.2 minutes. That is 17 seconds less than the predecessor. So far there are only six street-legal models from Mercedes, Radical, Lamborghini and Porsche that were faster.
The fact that the GT3 was trimmed for piste performance is also evident elsewhere. New forged wheels with central locking and significantly larger and at the same time lighter brake discs have been developed, each of which contributes to reducing the unsprung mass. A few kilos were also saved on the lightweight sports exhaust system, the lithium-ion starter battery and the increased use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastics.
The front axle lift system with “Smart Lift” memory function is new to the GT3. For the first time, road-approved circuit tires can also be ordered. Porsche offers a clubsport package especially for use on the racetrack, which includes a six-point seat belt for the driver, roll cage, fire extinguisher and battery isolator. Unlike the optional carbon-ceramic brakes, this package is at no extra charge. Speaking of which: Porsche has not yet announced prices for the new GT3, but these should increase noticeably compared to the predecessor, which cost around 152,000 euros.
