Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced that they are expecting offspring. Your photographer will now reveal details.
After Meghan Markle made her miscarriage public in an essay in the New York Times in November 2020, the couple fell silent. Last weekend, Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry returned with good news: The two are expecting their second child.
According to aristocracy expert Omid Scobie, the date of their announcement was chosen carefully, because on Valentine’s Day 37 years ago, Princess Diana’s pregnancy with Harry was announced in the media.
The black and white photo of the couple, in which Harry puts his hand on Meghan’s head while she lies in his lap and cradles her baby bump, went around the world. It was shot by photographer Misan Harriman. In an interview with Good Morning America, Harriman announced details about the shoot.
Powerful symbolism for women
“Because of COVID, I wasn’t able to be there to take the recordings, so the technology had to come into play,” said Misan Harriman. “I took the photo with my iPad so I was able to give them directions – and the rest is history,” added the photographer.
The couple seem natural in their surroundings, and the set-up with the tree in the background also has powerful symbolism. According to Harriman, the couple radiate “bravery, hope and love”. “Especially for women who have suffered a miscarriage, this should give strength to know that there is light in this dark place,” said Misan Harriman.
Meghan Markle and Harriman have been friends for years, the photographer was present at their wedding in 2018 and also accompanied their first pregnancy with his lens. Misan Harriman was also the first black photographer to shoot the cover of the UK’s September 2020 issue of Vogue.
