“Star”: Disney + launches new streaming channel

In addition to the previously very family-friendly program, there will be content for an older audience. But that’s not free: From next Tuesday, the subscription will no longer cost 6.99 euros per month (69.99 annually), but instead 8.99 or 89.99 euros.

The background to the rapid expansion is likely to be the enormous interest in the streaming service: Instead of the 60 to 90 million users expected worldwide by 2024, Disney + already has 94.9 million subscribers, like Roger Crotti, Disney boss for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, yesterday announced at the presentation. The new target is now 230 to 260 million users by 2024. Therefore, the group can also afford to increase investments in new content for Disney + from four to eight to nine billion dollars. According to Crotti, Disney will increasingly publish films in the cinema and on the streaming channel at the same time, such as “Raya and the Last Dragon” on March 5th.

Two German series planned

“Star” kicks off on Tuesday with 270 films, 60 series and four new series, including “Love, Victor”, a sequel to “Love, Simon”, in which teenage boy Victor realizes that he is gay. Disney also wants to pay more attention to local films. 50 productions are to be shot in Europe by 2024. Ten have already been fixed, two of them in Germany. The life of the first black policeman in the GDR is filmed in the series “Sam – a Saxon”. The black humor series “Sultan City” shows how a Turkish family in Berlin has to find their way in the underworld. (hes)
