Urban diets increase risk of cardiovascular disease – especially these foods

City dwellers eat more saturated fats and processed foods

The investigation was conducted among more than 300 Tanzanians, some of whom live in Moshi city and some in the countryside. The team of researchers from the Radboud university medical center in the Netherlands, the LIMES Institute of the University of Bonn, the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and the Kilimanjaro Clinic Research Center in Tanzania found that the immune cells of the participants from Moshi produced more inflammatory proteins. The people examined had no health problems and were not sick, but an activated immune system can increase the risk of lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular diseasesAccording to the press release.

Analyzes showed that metabolic products from food have an impact on the immune system. Rural participants had higher levels of flavonoids and other anti-inflammatory substances in their blood.
