Angelique Kerber put a negative corona test

Tennis professional Angelique Kerber can most likely play her second preparatory match for the Australian Open (from February 8th) in Melbourne on Friday. After the corona case in an employee of a player’s hotel, the 33-year-old from Kiel tested negative, her management informed SID.

Kerber had spent her strict quarantine in the affected Grand Hyatt Hotel, but had moved to new accommodation on January 29 after the end of the 14-day isolation.

No further corona case so far

520 tennis professionals, officials and employees had to be isolated and tested because of the incident, and play at six tournaments in Melbourne was stopped. According to reports, no further positive case has yet been discovered, and around half of the people affected are said to have already received a negative test result.

Tournament director Craig Tiley had previously announced that the Australian Open should start as planned. The draw has been postponed to Friday. On the same day Kerber continues to play in the “Grampians Trophy”. Your next opponent in the round of 16 is the Tunisian Ons Jabeur.
