Salzburg wins thriller at Vienna Capitals

The duel between the Vienna Capitals and Red Bull Salzburg in the Bet-at-home ICE Hockey League on Tuesday brought a finish with unbeatable tension. After three goals in the last 70 seconds, Salzburg won 4: 3 after a shootout in Vienna. Leader of the table Bolzano defeated Fehervar 4: 3 and is three points ahead of the free KAC at halftime of the placement round.

After their first win in the second round, Salzburg wanted to add more and did so in a rousing game. Especially the finish was not for the faint of heart. With the help of the otherwise strong Salzburg goalkeeper JP Lamoureux, Alex Wall equalized to 2: 2 70 seconds before the final siren.

In the final minute, Caps goalkeeper Bernhard Starkbaum parried against Stefan Espeland brilliantly, but immediately had to admit defeat when Thomas Raffl deflected a Heinrich shot 25 seconds in front of the siren. But the Viennese did not give up and, thanks to Benjamin Nissner, saved themselves into extra time nine seconds before the end. After goalless overtime, Austin Ortega became the match winner with two goals in a shootout. Salzburg are only two points behind the Capitals in fourth place.

Graz temporarily at the top

In the qualifying round, the Graz99ers took the lead for 24 hours because the duel between the Bratislava Capitals and the Dornbirn Bulldogs only starts on Wednesday. The Styrians won the previous VSV with 4: 2. The decision in Villach was made in the middle third, when Travis Oleksuk (24th) gave the 99ers a 2-1 lead with their first power play goal in the second round and Olof Mylläri (33rd) and Ken Ograjensek (38th) two more goals refilled.

The Innsbrucker Haie brought themselves back into the game for the last three quarter-finals with a 5-2 home win against Black Wings Linz. The Tyroleans are five points below the line, a defeat would have been the sure thing.
