Vaccination: Austria clearly behind neighboring countries

194,287 people or 2.18 percent of the population have received the first dose of a corona vaccination in Austria as of yesterday, according to the e-vaccination certificate. The second dose required for complete vaccination protection was administered to 28,233 people, which, according to the Ministry of Health, has so far taken a total of 222,520 vaccinations, which have also been entered in the e-vaccination pass.

This means that when it comes to vaccination rates, Austria is significantly behind neighboring countries in an international comparison. In Slovenia, 3.7 percent of the population have been vaccinated against Covid-19 so far, in Switzerland 3.6 percent, in Italy 3.5 percent, in Hungary 3.2, in Germany 3.1 percent and in the Czech Republic and Slovakia 2.8 percent each.

“Vaccination world champion” is still Israel, where 58.8 percent of the population has now been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2. The United Arab Emirates follow with 34.8 percent, Great Britain with 14.9 percent, Bahrain with 10.2 percent and the USA with 9.9 percent.

As far as the regional distribution is concerned, the picture in Austria is different. In Upper Austria, according to the e-vaccination pass, relatively most – 2.81 percent – or 41,872 people with a registered main residence received a corona vaccination. In Vorarlberg and Krnten the figure is just under 2.5 percent (9904 and 14,422 people, respectively) and in Vienna 2.36 percent (45,145 people). In contrast, 1.42 percent (17,692 people) in Styria, 1.6 percent (8913 people) in Salzburg and 1.69 percent (12,826 people) in Tyrol have been vaccinated.

The ministry announced on Wednesday that there are internationally different calculation bases that do not allow a comparison sufficiently. A standardization is being worked on. Almost 86 percent of vaccinations in Austria are currently entered in the e-vaccination pass.
